Lower Back and Spinal Injuries
- The
lower back plays a major role in everyday life as it
bears the majority of your body’s weight.
Therefore, it is easily injured when you lift, reach or
twist. Spinal injuries can be attributed to
traumatic injuries, a strength deficiency or genetic.
All can be successfully treated to help improve one’s
way of life.
-
Lower Extremity Injuries
- Lower
extremity injuries generally involve the knees, ankles
and feet. Unfortunately, the human body relies
upon all the lower extremity components to work in
conjunction with one another. An injury creates
instability, causing the body to compensate.
Compensation alleviates pain and discomfort to the
injured area but adds additional stress to the healthy
joints and muscles. If the afflicted area is not
treated promptly and efficiently the injury becomes more
complex over time. Early diagnosis and treatment
of lower extremity injuries is essential!

Symptomatic Disorders:
-
Arthritis Pains
- Arthritis and joint pain are among the most debilitating
human conditions. Chances are you or someone you
know has arthritis. Arthritis causes pain, stiffness and
sometimes swelling in or around joints. This can
make it hard to perform the movements you rely on every
day to work or to take care of your family. There
are many options available and steps you can take to
avoid arthritis or to reduce arthritis pain and keep the
freedom to move about, which so many take for granted.
-
Osteoarthritis
- Osteoarthritis is a disease of the cartilage in joints
and is the most common form of arthritis and is a major
cause of pain and disability in older adults.
Osteoarthritis causes progressive breakdown of cartilage
until the bones, which were once separated by cartilage,
rub against each other. This results in damage to
the tissue and underlying bone, causing the painful
joint symptoms of osteoarthritis.
-
Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory disorder
wherein the body's immune system attacks its own
tissues, a condition known as autoimmune disease.
The tissues affected most commonly in rheumatoid
arthritis are cartilage, bone, and various internal
organs, leading to joint destruction, arthritis, and
other symptoms.
-
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Carpal
tunnel syndrome is a specific group of symptoms
including tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in the
fingers or hand and occasionally in the forearm and
elbow. These symptoms occur when there is pressure
on the median nerve within the wrist. The median
nerve runs through the carpal tunnel, which is formed by
the wrist bones and ligaments.
-
Diabetic Neuropathy
- Diabetic Neuropathy is a nerve disorder commonly caused
by diabetes. Over time, high blood sugar levels
from diabetes can damage nerves throughout the body.
There are several types of diabetic neuropathies:
- Peripheral neuropathy results from damage to the
peripheral nervous system. It reduces your
ability to sense pain, touch, temperature, and
vibration in certain parts of the body and may
sometimes affect movement and muscle strength.
It most often affects the feet and lower legs and
may contribute to serious foot problems, such as
ulcers, infection, and bone and joint deformities.
It is the most common form of diabetic neuropathy.
- Autonomic neuropathy is caused by problems with the
autonomic nervous system. These nerves control
the involuntary functions of your body, such as
heartbeat, blood pressure, sweating, digestion,
urination, and some aspects of sexual function.
This is also a common form of diabetic neuropathy.
- Focal neuropathy affects a single nerve, most often
in the wrist, thigh, or foot. It may also
affect the nerves of the back and chest and those
that control the eye muscles. It is often
associated with conditions that compress or pinch
the nerves such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
However, carpal tunnel syndrome also frequently
occurs in people who have diabetes but do not have
focal neuropathy. Focal neuropathy usually
develops suddenly and is the rarest form of diabetic
neuropathy.
-
Fibromyalgia Treatment and Exercise Programs
- Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by
musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and multiple tender
points, particularly in the neck, spine, shoulders, and
hips. People with this syndrome may also
experience sleep disturbances, morning stiffness,
irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, and other symptoms.
Call us and see how we can help you manage the disorders
caused by fibromyalgia.
-
Osteoporosis Exercise Programs
- Osteoporosis is a progressive disease that causes bones
to become thin and porous, significantly increasing your
risk for vertebrae and hip fractures. Hip
fractures often require hospitalization, and vertebral
fractures can cause loss of height and severe back pain.
Both may lead to permanent disability. A
supervised wellness routine recommended by our Physical
Therapists can aid and help in the prevention of the
conditions brought on by this debilitating disease.
